Marketing and Strategy

2004 – Present  President and Principal Consultant, Growing Company Solutions, North Potomac, Maryland, USA

Dr. Taylor founded GCS to help emerging life science companies improve their market awareness, tone their competitive fitness, and broaden their global perspective. Representative client engagements include serving as VP of Business Development for Expression Pathology, Inc., an emerging biomarker discovery tools and service company, and negotiating an exclusive worldwide distribution agreement for QBM Cell Science, a Canadian neuroscience company.

2004-Present  Senior Partner, Biotech Venture Management, Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA

Dr. Taylor has a productive partnership with Casimir (Casey) Eitner, Managing Partner of Biotech Venture Management, to offer joint management expertise on a retainer basis for clients in the research products market. Casey is a former Life Technologies Vice-President with extensive experience in laboratory products management.

2001 – 2004  Director of Global Strategic Marketing, Molecular Biology Research, QIAGEN N.V. Hilden, Germany

Dr. Taylor led a group of market segment managers in the US and Germany, preparing market analyses and developing growth strategies for QIAGEN’s Plasmid, DNA Cleanup, Genomic DNA, Protein Expression, Transfection, Protein Array, Cell Biology, Gene Silencing and Instrumentation products. Dr. Taylor served on the QIAGEN Technology Council, overseeing R&D projects and evaluating new technologies.

1994 – 2001  North America Regional Marketing Manager, QIAGEN Inc., Valencia, CA USA

As a Regional Marketing Manager, Dr. Taylor directed a group of six Product Managers with responsibility for QIAGEN Plasmid Miniprep, DNA Cleanup, PCR, DNA Sequencing and Instrumentation product lines, achieving an organic annual growth rate of more than 40% over the seven year period and finishing with revenue responsibilities of more than $62 million. Dr. Taylor launched the QIAGEN Sequencing Services business in North America in 1997.

Science Experience

1988 – 1994 Assistant Professor, Department of Biology, Texas A&M University, College Station, TX USA

Dr. Taylor published eight peer-reviewed research papers, developed and taught five new graduate-level courses on genetics and molecular biology, and served as Interim Director of the Advanced DNA Technologies Laboratory, a DNA Sequencing core facility.

1984-1988 Postdoctoral Fellow, Division of Plant Industry, CSIRO, Canberra, A.C.T., Australia

Dr. Taylor worked with the Australian government to develop plant transposable element-based vectors for plant transformation and genetic analysis. This work was one of the earliest studies to demonstrate activity of maize transposable elements in transgenic tobacco.

1978-1980 Research Technician, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA USA

Dr. Taylor 's research on E.coli tRNA/ribosome interactions led to a first-author publication in Biochemistry and an additional paper in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science.

Trained as a “Leader for the Digital Economy”, with a strong international and team-based management focus.

1984   Ph.D. in Biochemistry, University of Washington, Seattle, WA USA

Dr. Taylor's graduate training was in the fundamental chemistry, physics and genetics of biomolecules. His dissertation title was “Molecular Analysis of Plant Tissues Transformed by Agrobacterium rhizogenes A4”.

1978   B.S. in Biochemistry, University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH USA

Dr. Taylor attended UNH as a National Merit Scholar, conducted research on hemerythrin and bacterial nucleases as an undergraduate, and graduated in three years with honors.
